WHO: Todd Thiemann, senior director of product management for encryption and key management vendor Vormetric. Mr. Thiemann is also Co-chair of the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) Solution Provider Advisory Council. He has more than 20 years of information security industry experience with Trend Micro, HP, and Oracle Corporation. Mr. Thiemann holds a B.S. from Georgetown University and an MBA from the Anderson School at UCLA.

WHAT: Following sensitive data disclosures in 2011, the White House directed agency heads to develop stricter criteria for determining which federal employees are given access to secured computer systems and networks, and institute “insider threat” programs. But beyond limiting access, what can government agencies do to prevent classified data leaks?

This session, entitled Beyond Employee Profiling: Defeating the Insider Threat in Government will examine the anatomy of an internal breach, including the conditions that make data leaks possible, and present the following six step process that enables government agencies to prevent classified information breaches.

  1. Identify sensitive data location, flow and access requirements
  2. Centralize sensitive data repositories
  3. Define access control methodology
  4. Review trusted user access
  5. Define logging and monitoring model
  6. Place controls directly on the data with encryption
